Designing an Eventful Flyer
Every year at the print shop, the company throws an event called Coney Day. In this event, Coney Island provided a food truck for catering to boost morale. I was asked to create a flyer.
Goal:
Design a flyer to inform the staff about Coney Day.
Tools:
Adobe Illustrator.
A Little Help:
My manager emailed me the required information. However, she gave me a copy of a past flyer. My thought was to base my flyer off of the old one.
More Options:
I made a flyer based off of the old flyer, but my team leader recommended I make one in my own style. My manager loved both of them and wanted to print both.
Another Variation:
After some final edits, all was good, but I was told to make a variation for the headquarters building because they only have a day shift.
The Display of a Party
At the print shop, it was tradition to throw a potluck for those who retired. I was asked to create a flier for Diana. However, I never met her. All I knew was that she was patriotic.
Design a properly formatted, patriotic banner within a week.
Goal:
Tools:
Adobe Illustrator.
Filling in the Space:
To come up with the banner design I took inspiration from retro American posters. The striped background looked fun, so it made sense to include the stripes. I did not want this to present as overly 4th of July, so I added simple vectors of historical landmarks. I wanted the text to fill up most of the space, but I left enough room to see the striped background.
Adding in the fun:
While the banner looked fine, I wanted to improve the top proton. Since the occasion was a potluck, I thought a casual banner would fit the project.
The Launch of Summer
At the print shop, new hires started work at the end of spring. To boost morale, the managers asked me to create t-shirt designs.
Goal:
Design art relating to spring, summer, and holidays for t-shirts.
Tools:
Adobe Illustrator.
The Inspiration:
When I thought about spring and summer, I decided the best way to represent those themes was with flowers, camping, and the 4th of July. I felt inspired to create some sketches.
A Missing Piece:
Everything seemed fine, but I felt that the circle was too basic, I created some shapes and liked the outline of Michigan the best.
Conclusion:
I was happy to see that the staff enjoyed the designs and attended the event. The staff loved wearing the shirts with my designs.
Knowledge Gained:
I was happy to use my fashion design skills for more projects. Moving forward, I hope to continue taking new challenges to expand my skillset.
