Rebranding an Organization
A Minecraft organization on the game MineZ wanted to develop a new identity to bring in more players and have a more modern look after having the same look for years.
Rebrand an existing brand to bring in players by creating a new logo and a portrait of the players.
Goal:
Tools:
Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
Before and After:
The old logo is the yellow one on the top. I used the yellow, black, and white color scheme for the new logo. However, the colors did not transfer over well. The colors felt too traditional, and they wanted a modern logo. I tried out blue and found a simple, block shape for the logo.
The Deliveries:
The logo’s main purpose was for the Discord server. I illustrated a group portrait of the players using a scene from a popular location in the game.
Designing a World Record Guild
The Order of the Crimson Cross previously had a record for the longest-running online gaming guild. They played a medieval roleplay game, which released a new feature to incorporate a personal coat of arms into the world. The Crimson Cross asked if I could make a coat of arms. The intention was to use the coat of arms on their character’s banner and armor.
Goal:
Design a coat of arms using a dragon and scroll to be used in a game.
Tools:
Adobe Illustrator.
Medieval Colors:
The required elements were crimson red and a cross shape. I made my own scroll and dragon to fit the appearance. I used pops of gold and silver for contrast to resemble the colors seen in medieval taverns. The dragon was kept simple with limited scale details and a light gradient to ensure visibility on the small scale of the game.
The Branding of a Game Mode
A new game mode called Warband was created. Before releasing it to the public, the staff wanted to create an identity. The issue was that they had no idea where to begin.
Develop a new brand to bring life to the game by creating a memorable logo to be used across social media platforms.
Goal:
Tools:
Adobe Illustrator.
Rough Sketches:
Starting simply with the logo sketches, I kept a neutral color palette. I also wanted to incorporate other game elements like weapons and flags. The client wanted a flag or scroll, more color, and more busy. I made the changes and added character silhouettes for the busy look.
Recycling:
For Discord, one of my earlier sketches made the perfect profile icon. The logo can also be seen on social media as linked below.
Conclusion:
The branding for these organizations is still used today. The branding for 93rd Virtue and Warband successfully converted visitors into new followers.
Knowledge Gained:
93rd Virtues was my first time rebranding an existing organization, so I learned a lot and grew more comfortable with my rebranding skills. As a gamer, I am happy for the chance to create gaming-related projects and hope to take on more.
